Summer 2010 Mixtape, Vol. I: The Drums, Surfer Blood, Local Natives, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, MGMT, Beach House
While summer does not technically begin until mid-June, it has become something of an American tradition that Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer time. And perfect timing for folks on the west coast, where it has been an unusually cool, cloudy and rainy spring.
Now that Memorial Day weekend has arrived, it’s time to begin rolling out the summer mixtapes, and the good thing is, there’s a lot of terrific new music that has come out so far in 2010. And these mixtapes also give us an opportunity to share other great ‘summer’ style music with you not restricted to just ‘indie rock’.

Killer mix. Thanks!
Wow – this is a doozy of a playlist. I’ve just discovered a bunch of new favourite bands – cheers.
Heyy! Absolutely lovin’ on this Playlist!
Is there an easy way for me to just download the playlist to my ipod!? Or how do I go about downloading the songs without having to do an individual google search for each?
Yes, get FlashGot as an add-on plugin for FIrefox browser – then select download all – or just right click on the song link to say to your itunes.
Ah thank you! That is SOOO much better! I could kiss you i’m so happy!
Fuckin A! Awesome comp. Nice work..solid mix.
Hey, if you’re in the LA area check out Local Natives at the Troubadour Friday 6/04!!!
Hi,
Very nice list.
I need help, though.
I’ve been trying to subscribe to your Podcast (for iTunes–>iPod), but it gives me the first song only. And that happens for all compilations…just one track.
Does anyone have the same problem?
HELP!

Hey Dan: Yes, iTunes podcast cuts the stream after the first song. In order to have all the songs stream at once, we’d have to create one very long MP3 with all the songs recorded into it – which is not possible. In the meantime, until we find a way to make the entire list a podcast, all you have to do is go to the page on the site to listen to the rest of the songs using the built in streamer – and you can save them to your itunes individually as well. Thanks – Max
Wow, very nice list, thanks. But I must play title police here; “Teenage Wasteland”? Title = “Baba O’Riley”.
Thanks Jack. Fixed. :)
Thanks for another great post! You all do a great job!
Is it possible to download the playlists or are they unavailable for direct download?
The vast majority of songs are downloadable as they are provided by bands, artists and record labels. Firefox has a plugin called FlashGot that can download all of the songs in a playlist if you do not want to download them individually. Remember though, that each song is the property of its owner and all songs are displayed for promotional and evaluation purposes. The bulit-in Yahoo player streams all songs in a playlist in the order they appear on the page. All you have to do is click on the first song in any playlist or mixtape to stream the entire thing. Enjoy.
Awesome – thanks for the shout-out. Remember, there are six other mixes of summer songs in 2010, with one more coming this weekend (Labor Day wkend).
