Best New Releases from Film School, Brothers Young, The Clientele, TV Buddhas, Dominant Legs, Sonny & The Sunsets
Wow, it’s the end of August, already. That’s straight up crazy. Do any of you feel like you lost a summer? Surely, for folks in many parts of the country, the cooler days of late August, and the coming autumn, are welcomed after one of the hottest summers on record. Here in coastal northern California, after a cooler summer than normal, the approach of indian summer is something to look forward to.
Anyhow, there are some great new releases this week, but not as many as previous months, and definitely not compared to what’s set to be released in September, so far. Make sure to check back for a huge mix of new singles from September releases we are looking forward to. Plus, later this week, there will be a new mix of Releases We Almost Missed, a mix of Numbers in Songs, and the last mega-MP3 mix of Indie Summer Songs.
Below are our favorite singles from new releases officially out this week, including Film School’s debut, Fission. Film School is definitely on-the-radar. With that in mind, we want to hear what you think about the band’s new single below.

In addition to Film School, today’s mix includes new singles from fresh releases by Brothers Young, TV Buddahs, Dominant Legs, Sonny and the Sunsets, The Clientele, and others. This is probably one of the few weeks this year where our top picks are bands that most people have never heard of, and as a result, has that ‘really indie’ aspect to it, which somehow makes it more pure and totally new.

Wow- Im loving the intro. A dance song for the broken of heart. Waiting for a animation to this one; I enjoyed the video to Sunny Days. Im dealing with some thing along these lines in my own life; Feels like im falling in love…but i just keep rationalizing the plunge. PICK me PICKme.
P.s. Pick me PIck me! For the free CD!
Film School is from San Francisco.
Not my favorite Film School song; not my least favorite though either. Definitely worth a listen since music is subjective.
Their third album Hideout marked a real changing point for them. Probably all the band member changes. Almost like a new band.
Sonny & The Sunsets ‘Tomorrow is Alright ‘ Rules from start to finish.
Had never heard TV Buddahs before , thanks for posting
I really enjoyed the Film School song. As it starts out, you’d think it was going to be a simple, peaceful song. But after the beat fully comes in, and you feel the guitar strings, and you hear the sweet vocals, you realize its something much more. This is one of those amazing songs that makes you want to chill out and dance at the same time. The beat makes you want to bop your head, but the atmosphere given by the other sounds meshing together gets you so relaxed. Add on top of that lyrics about hopeful love, and you’ve got yourself a winning combination. The chorus is so uplifting, and for me it makes this song perfect for cruising through downtown at 2 A.M. with your pals. No one on the road, just you, the lights, and the lakefront. Listening to “Heart Full of Pentagons” makes you want to go out and enjoy life while you still have it. It’s hard for me to place this song in a category because of its many endearing qualities, and to me it sounds like something The Flaming Lips would have done, and that’s saying a lot. I’m really glad i found this song on your blog, and I’m really looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.
i honestly have never heard of this band but now that ive heard this song I”m completely hooked! I love their sound; it has the perfect balance with a beaty edge to it. not to mention the great lyrics. anyone know where they are from? anyways, this band is brilliant nd i would love for you guys to send me a copy of their album. great find guys!

i liked heart full of pentagons. i honestly dont know how do describe it because my musical termanology isn’t very broad. mostly because im fourteen. i like the combination of the “synth” (?) things with the guitar. i liked the beat in the background mainly because it’s something that made me want to dance to. and i really dont like dancing. vocals aree good. i guess. i don’t really know. good song overall.
