Around The World Playlist, Vol. I – The Strokes, The Shins, Akron/Family, Sufjan Stevens, The Clash, Calexico, Beach House
We are playlist fanatics; all kinds of playlists – from playlists focused on particular genres and best songs of the week to playlists of obscure DIY bands to playlists that center on almost every topic, subject and theme under the sun (we’ve even published playlists with songs about the sun too, and the popular Summer Songs playlists). If you’ve followed IRC over the years, you know that we’ve published hundreds and hundreds of playlists.
The aim with playlists is always to present great music. Over the years, we’ve built, in addition to playlists published on IRC, dozens and dozens of playlists in our personal iTunes collections. This new playlist series, for which we plan to publish a number of volumes over time, is called the ‘Around The World’ playlist, featuring songs about places around the world. The fifteen tracks in this playlist highlight favorite songs of ours from a variety of genres and artists, including well-known bands, and others that are more obscure.
Note: Click the album titles to purchase – via Amazon – any of the albums these songs appear on. We recommend all of these albums – many of which are classic, or highly-rated – for your eternal music collection. The album titles default to the MP3 version for each album, but we’ve also included the CD version of the album. A few have only the CD versions available, as noted below.
So, kick back, fire it up and stream, via Spotify, tracks from The Strokes (“Machu Picchu” from Angles [CD]); Akron/Family (“The Alps & Their Orange Evergreen” from Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free [CD only] ); The Black Atlantic (“Madagascar” Reverence for Fallen Trees [CD]); The Shins (“Australia” from Wincing The Night Away [CD]); Beach House (“Norway” from Teen Dream [CD + DVD]); Miles Davis (“Dear Old Stockholm” from The Best of Miles Davis & John Coltrane [CD]); Bart Davenport (“Cayman Islands” from Searching for Bart Davenport [CD]); Sufjan Stevens (“Out of Egypt…” from Illinoise [CD]); Paul Simon (“American Tune” from The Essential Paul Simon [CD]); Calexico (“Algiers” from Algiers [CD]); Red Rockers (“China” from Good As Gold [CD]); The Bogmen (“Mexico” from Closed Caption Radio [CD only] ); The Clash (“London Calling” from London Calling [CD]), among others.
