We hear you Sean, and we gradually changed our minds. Besides that, there's nothing wrong with criticizing something if you don't like it (at first). That's what blogs are for. But again, we've since come to really embrace Comedown Machine.

I dont get this review...why dish out critisism for being different and embracing a new direction ?

I am a huge strokes fan (always have been) and i loved this is it and room on fire when they came out. What was funny about room on fire was that it got critisised for being too similar to the first album!
Then 1st impressions got praised for being a return to form - ie. being like the 1st album.. when it a was totally different type of album in my opinion and then angles got praised for being different! What's going on there?

What's wrong with listening to the album and just saying i like it or i dont.
Forgetting about what has gone before i really like alot of songs on this album (In particular Tap Out / Welcome to Japan / Slow Animals / Partners in Crime / Happy Ending)

In my opinion the strokes have never released an album without 5 great songs on it.

I almost never leave a response, but i did a few searching and
wound up here SXSW 2013: Best Bands Spotify Playlists, 10 Free SXSW Samplers
and Thousand Song SXSW Torrents | Best new indie rock music songs, albums, bands, artists
and festivals. And I actually do have a couple of questions
for you if it's allright. Could it be only me or does it look like a few of the remarks look as if they are written by brain dead people? :-P And, if you are writing on additional online sites, I'd like to keep up with everything fresh you have to post.
Would you make a list of all of all your community sites like
your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?

For me, this album is redemption for the dissapoinent that was Angles. Sure - there is a noticeably stylistic change from their early work, but the songs are thoroughly enjoyable to listen to - which is all that really matters. Tap Out is 10/10 and I'd say they've nailed the new style.

This harsh review (it's nowhere near the harshest) and all of the others on other sites is completely redundant! Apparently you don't seem to realise that this is actually not a new album (as such) at all but rather a collection of B sides originally intended for previous albums? In fact the only newly recorded track on this album is 80's Comedown Machine. Do your research next time and re-write the review in the correct context. Apologies for the venom I am frustrated with all of the reviews not so much just this one. Peace.

Hi Raul: Yes, there is a similarity there, but we still think it's an ugly cover - just a personal opinion. Over the years, with the move to digital, bands and labels put less consideration and budget into album artwork. When vinyl was king, an album cover really mattered because it was the first thing people saw of course when they got their hands on a record. We'll eventually do a review of the best and worst album covers of 2013.

Love voodoo child. Jimi Hendrix is one of the best guitarist, what makes him best is his natural style and ability to transcend the conventional guitar playing.
