The official line-up for Coachella 2009, April 17 - April 19, has been released on the official Coachella website and it looks like another great year for the fest. While southern California is in the midst of a three-year drought, there is no drought in talented artists lined up for this year's Coachella fest.
Headliners include Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Beirut, Conor Oberst, Crystal Castles, The Killers, TV on the Radio, Thievery Corporation, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Black Keys, Dr. Dog, Calexico, M. Ward, Hold Steady, Girl Talk, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Paul Weller, Peter Bjorn and John, Okkervil River, No Age and a rare appearance of that pesky, infamous band from San Francisco The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The list goes on and on.
Tickets for Coachella 2009 are now on sale. Don't forget, camping passes go quickly. The popular three-day passes are priced at $269.00 and single day passes, which usually sell out the fastest, are $99 per day.
Many people complain about the cost, but if you look at the line-up and think of the enormity of the event - a lifetime memory - I think it's still worth it. In a disastrous economic situation across the nation, chances are the festival will still sell out or come close to it.
"Eraser" - No Age from Nouns
"Strange Times" - The Black Keys from Attack & Release
"White Winter Hymnal" - Fleet Foxes from self-titled debut Fleet Foxes
"Lost Coastlines" - Okkervil River from The Stand Ins
"Cape Canaveral" - Conor Oberst from self titled debut Conor Oberst

The Bamboozle Left Fesival kicks off today, April 5th in Irvine, California and extends through the end of Sunday, April 6th.Check back regularly for updates from Bamboozle Left's weekend festival and get blog and media reports, photographs and videos, plus MP3s and streams of profiled artists.Performing today on one of six stages at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater (I hate how so many of our music, sporting and other venues and events have surrendered their namesakes to brands of capitalism; it really takes the 'organic' feel out of the event and makes you wonder why you still pay so much for tickets) include:
- All American Rejects [mp3: It Ends Tonight], Josephine Collective, Alkaline Trio [mp3: Radio], Daphne Love Derby, Jimmy Eat World, Paramore [mp3: Pressure], New Found Glory, The Bouncing Souls, The Starting Line and Valencia to name a few.
But there really are no 'big headliners' at Bamboozle Left that other music fests for 2008 can brag about.
Then again, the full line-up is not all that bad for the $45 single day tickets at the door, but with the dragging economy, fears of a recession and rip-off gas prices, the single day ticket price is still a bit pricey. Why not $70 for a two-day pass?
If you're in the Irvine area and decide to go the festival last through the end of Sunday. Check back for more lineup information, performances, music, videos, blog and media reports.

Promoters for major music festivals realize that beating the others to the punch as far as announcing lineup and ticket sale dates could mean the difference in tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Therefore, fest promoters rush to get the lineup out with the hopes that many people will plan to go to their festival rather than a competing festival. Unless you are geographically close to many festivals - say if you live in the northeast or mid-Atlantic - or happen to have a lot of time and money, many festival lovers have to pick and choose. So, getting out a killer lineup means the difference between a profitable fest and a very profitable festival.
In what was a bizarre, and quite frankly annoying effort to some (entertaining to some less) people, Bonnaroo organizers teased fans with a list of riddles and rhythms about the Bonnaroo 2008 lineup.

When single-day tickets for Coachella 2008 went on sale two weeks ago, they were gone in a matter of hours. But there's hope, if you're willing to throw it down.
For folks only interested in single-day tickets, competitive bidding is underway on eBay, and for sale on Craigslist. Of course you can expect people to hold out in posting for sale their tickets until closer to the festival opening day (April 24).
Even in a recession, people will decide to go at the last minute and shell out for the so-called 'once-in-a-lifetime' experience of Coachella (even though logic says it'll be around for years to come).
If you simply cannot find, or do not want to pay the inflated prices for single tickets, I strongly recommend getting a three-day pass now before they sell out. It is a pisser that the three-day passes are a ridiculous $269 each.

Nevertheless, once they are gone for the official price, they will be much more valuable in the next couple of months.
Also, when you are buying the three-day pass from the official website, you have the option to add the flat fee of $55 for a three-day camp site, if they are still available. Campsites, because they are reasonably priced (but have many restrictions and security), also usually sell out quickly.
A big part for this is because the average hotel room in the area, if you can find one at this point goes for almost $300 a night right now. As the scalpers do, hotels will take advantage of 'last minuters' and block out a set of rooms so that in the days leading up to the opening of the festival they can sell them for twice as much.
Here's Coachella 2008's complete line-up of confirmed artists. Check out the line-up, dates and poster.
Head's up: Rooms in the Indio area are almost gone. See map of town with accommodations listed and a map of the region.
