There's always too many indie rock articles and items of news and never enough time to write about them. So, as an antidote, IRC has come up with the 'linkstorm' concept to deliver to you the best in what's happening in the indie music world. Enjoy.

2008 Music Festival News, Line-Ups, Media and Features
April 14, 2008Based on visitor traffic, comments and your email requests, people want more music festival news, updates, line-ups and more for 2008 music festivals - perhaps the biggest year for music festivals worldwide.
Coachella, less than two weeks away, has just added Prince as a headliner. It's really helpful that he returned to his original namesake rather than that symbol (thanks Prince). Also the Coachella line-up rumors that Goldfrapp and Aphex Twin have been added have been confirmed.

The Virgin Mobile Festival, set for August 9-10, 2008 at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, has yet to release the official, full line-up of artists for this year's festival, but the headliners already announced include Foo Fighters, Jack Johnson, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails and Stone Temple Pilots.
Get more details at the Virgin Festival official website.
Tickets for the UK Reading and Leeds Festival sold out in record time. To see why, here’s the official line-up for 2008.

Headliners for both fests include include Queens of the Stone Age, Rage Against the Machine, The Killers, Metallica, The Raconteurs, Editors, Bloc Party, Manic Street Preachers, Justice and Bullet for My Valentine. The dates of the festivals are from August 22-26, 2008.

Organizers have canceled the Isle of Skye Festival in Scotland due to mounting debts. Nice work, guys!
The Flaming Lips have announced that they plan to debut their long-awaited movie "Christmas on Mars" at this year's Sasquatch Festival in Washington State on Sunday, May 25. The following day, Monday, May 26, the Flaming Lips will close out the festival with a predictably flashy set.
Other headliners set to play the Northwest's largest outdoor festival - and voted by Pollstar as the best outdoor fest in the U.S. - include Modest Mouse, The Cure, Death Cab For Cutie, Built to Spill, Rodrigo y Gabriela, MIA, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, The Mars Volta, REM and The National.
Video: Modest Mouse: Dramamine (many of MM's vids on YouTube have been disabled for embedding; hmmmm....)
Non-headliners, but not less note-worthy, include bands such as Mates of State, Rogue Wave, Beirut, Okkervil River, Grand Archives, Cold War Kids, The Kooks, White Rabbits, Throw Me the Statue, Ghostland Observatory, The Hives, Battles, Yeasayer and many more. Here's the full line-up.
The Celebrate Brooklyn summer music concert series kicks off for the 30th year in Prospect Park beginning in June.

Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz Admits Suicide Attempt, Joins Prevention Campaign
March 21, 2008
(photo by Chris Polk)The songwriter and bassist for the popular pop-punk indie group Fall Out Boy said that he had struggled with major depression that lead to a suicide attempt, according to US magazine.
Wentz, who is currently dating celebrity singer Ashlee Simpson, said that he was "lost" and "out of control" during the time Fall Out Boy was in the studio recording. The article does not say when the incident occurred, but a wild guess says it would have been during the recording for the 2007 release Infinity on High.
In 2005, FOB released one of the year's top-selling albums, From Under the Cork Tree, spawning a Billboard Top 10 for album spot and two Top Ten hits "Dance, Dance" and "Sugar We're Going Down." The album quickly gained double platinum status and Fall Out Boy was subsequently nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist of the Year.
But the fame and fortune, and the prescription drugs, Wentz said, were not making him any happier.
"I got in my car. I remember I was listening to Jeff Buckley doing Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' [mp3] and sat there and took a bunch of [anxiety drug] Ativan in a Best Buy parking lot," Wentz said.
Wentz said he then "called up my manager because I was, at that point, completely out of my head with Ativan. And I was talking to him and I was slurring my words, so he called my mom and my mom called me and she came and got me and we went to the hospital.
"It's not really about keeping your head above water, it's about feeling all right and feeling safe in your own skin."

This week Wentz took part in a MTVU teen suicide prevention fundraiser called "Half of Us".
Fall Out Boy are enroute to Chile and, I checked this three times, Antartica. Why? FOB is trying to set a world record. Stay tuned to IRC by signing up for the site feed to get all the details about this still developing and amazing story when the results are in. Will they do it?
As of today, according to Fall Out Boy's official website, there are no other shows scheduled yet for 2008, but chances are their will be.
Don't forget your ear muffs.

Does Stephen Colbert Read My Blog?
November 30, 2006
UPDATE: Colbert Claims Victory - Read nowLast night, Steven Colbert of The Colbert Report - one of my favorite TV personalities after John Stewart and David Letterman - accused The Decemberists indie rock band of stealing his idea of the green-scene animation contest.
On an episode of the show last month, Colbert asked his viewers to create an animation enhancement of a video Colbert made against a green back scene.
The low budget, shoddy shot video shows a crazed Colbert swinging around wildly making geeky gestures that only he can with a "laser sword" (a comic take on Star Wars) against a green back scene.
Nowadays, many movies ("Shrek" being one of the first), music videos and other visual media are recorded using a green back scene. The green screen (it was blue in the early days) allows animators to more easily add and fill in animated characters, special effects, backgrounds, spatial data and so on, thereby creating, a cyber collaboration, if you will.
On November 13, prior to the issue being reported on CNET, IRC posted a profile of The Decemberists that included a mention of their green-screen animation contest and its likeness to the Colbert video.
I was surprised, and somewhat excited last night when at the top of his program, Colbert blasted The Decemberists for holding a similar "fill in the green-scene" contest for their new music video O Valencia!.
So I asked the obvious question: Does Stephen Colbert read my blog?
If so, it's OK, I love you Stephen, even though your a conversative Republican (or at least play one on TV).
If you can't admit you regularily read my indie rock blog showcasing the best of indie music, then shame on you, Mr. Colbert!
A T-shirt is in the mail.
Now my challenge: Who got the story right the first time?

B - The Colbert Report
C - CNET News
D - Stereogum
E - Pitchfork
